Prove you own a Dogecoin, Litecoin or Bitcoin Cash address

Dogecoin, Litecoin and Bitcoin Cash sign messages the same way Bitcoin does. Sign one short message in your coin's wallet and anyone can check it against your address.

How it works

Each of these coins was built from Bitcoin's code, so each has Bitcoin's Sign message feature, with its own address formats and its own message prefix (so a signature for one coin can't be passed off as another's). Signing never sends a transaction and never costs a fee.

Which addresses work

CoinAddressesWallets that sign
Dogecoin (DOGE)D…Dogecoin Core: File → Sign message
Litecoin (LTC)ltc1q…, L…, M…Electrum-LTC: Tools → Sign/verify message; Litecoin Core: File → Sign message
Bitcoin Cash (BCH)bitcoincash:q… (or the old 1… form)Electron Cash: Tools → Sign/verify message; Bitcoin Cash Node: File → Sign message

Multisig and other script addresses (Dogecoin A…/9…, Bitcoin Cash bitcoincash:p…) can't sign a message on their own. Exchange deposit addresses belong to the exchange.

Step by step

  1. On Get certified, choose Sign by hand, pick the coin, and enter your address. The coin is picked for you when the address makes it obvious.
  2. Copy the message the page shows you.
  3. In your wallet, open Sign message, choose the same address, paste the message exactly, and sign. You may be asked for your wallet password.
  4. Paste the signature back. The page checks it straight away, then takes you to payment.

The message is valid for 30 minutes. If it runs out, press "Get a fresh message".

Tier 3 AML screening

Dogecoin, Litecoin and Bitcoin Cash addresses can also be screened on-chain for sanctions, mixers and stolen funds as part of a Tier 3 certificate, once Tier 3 is available.

Questions

Does signing cost DOGE, LTC or BCH?

No. A signed message isn't a transaction, so nothing is sent and there's no fee.

Why does the page ask which coin it is?

Some old address formats (starting 1 or 3) are shared by Bitcoin and its forks, and each coin signs with its own prefix. Where the address makes it obvious, the coin is picked for you.

Can I use a phone wallet?

Only if it has a Sign message feature you can copy the signature from. Most people use the desktop wallets listed above.
